Well… I’ve been tempted to come and suggest you all a very good Chilean radio station that you can listen to online. I’m talking about RADIO EL CONQUISTADOR F.M. (“The conqueror” could be a good translation of “El conquistador”). This is one of the oldest and only radios that still play instrumental music, classic music and that even has a space to play Chilean traditional music. I used to listen to it when I was very little and, after a lot of years listening to some other radios, the reggaeton fever has forced me to migrate and look for new musical horizons. But, since almost all the other radios are infected with this fever as well, there aren’t many options left. And it was then that I remembered EL CONQUISTADOR and that I started listening to it again. And I love it! I’ve remembered how much I used to love it when I was little and… Well. During these days of vacations, this radio has been with me all the time. :)

I specially like the Chilean traditional music program and a couple of talk shows (“La Tarde con Valor Agregado” and “La hora de los búhos”). Also, I love all the tribal and ethnic music they usually play, the instrumental music and the classical music program they broadcast during the nights. :)

So! If you want to try it and listen to it online, go to www.elconquistador.cl. Wait until the whole page loads (it’s made in flash or something so it has to load a lot of little effects and stuff like that) and click where it says “SALTAR”. That will make you skip the intro and actually reach the main page. Once there, you’ll see a bar with different links, in the upper section of the page:

  • QUIÉNES SOMOS (Who we are): Information regarding the radio station.
  • PROGRAMAS (Shows): Information regarding the radios shows they broadcast.
  • SEÑALES (Signals): Information on how to tune the radio station from different parts of Chile.
  • EL CONQUISTADOR ONLINE (self-explanatory): Here’s where you need to go to listen to the radio station online.
  • CONTÁCTENOS (Contact us): Information on how to contact all the people who work on the radio. :)

So you go to EL CONQUISTADOR ONLINE. You’ll reach a webpage that’ll look like this and that’ll say:

Listen to our show.
you must turn off the background music by clicking on the upper-right corner of the screen (where it says ON).

To listen to our shows, you’ll need Windows Media Player.

If you already have the WMP, then you’re all set and you must click where it says Escucha nuestro programa. This will open a little pop-up that will start loading the WMP so you can listen to the music or show they are playing. They play exactly the same things that their are playing in the normal radio signal, so you’ll be able to listen to the very same music I listen.

So… Here are a few shows you may be interested in listening:

  • AUTOPISTA MUSICAL (Musical Highway): All kind of instrumental music, mixed with some old (50’s, 60’s, some 80’s and 90’s and even some 2000+) songs and with movies OSTs and other stuff in a very interesting playlist. This section is divided in 2 parts. One’s broadcasted from 09:00 am to 12:00 pm (Chilean time) and the othes starts at 14:00 pm and ends at 17:00 pm (also Chilean time – check the time equivalents I’ll put below).
  • CANCIONES Y AIRES DE NUESTRA TIERRA (Songs and airs of our land): Very good and interesting show, in which they play Chilean traditional, folcklorical music. It’s very good! It’s been broadcasted for 43 years and it’s almost the only radio show that plays Chilean music 365 days a year and that doesn’t remember that we have Chilean traditional music only for Septembre 18th/19th. :) It’s worth listening so you can know some typical Chilean music. There are some reaaaaaally good songs! :)
  • JOYAS MUSICALES (Music Jewels): A show where they broadcast some popular and well-known tunes so you can remember them. :) Starts at 21:30 pm and ends at 22:00 pm.
  • REUNIÓN MUSICAL SELECTA (Special Classic Musical Meeting): A show that starts at 22:00 pm and ends at 23:30 pm and where you’ll be able to listen to several and well-known classical pieces played by very good musicians. :)
  • SOLOS EN LA NOCHE (Lonely in the night): A show that plays all kind of nice, relaxing and delicious music to join you during the long night when you can’t sleep, have to stay up to study or work or just because you like it. They recommend you to listen to this show with headphones as they improve the relaxing sensation the music gives, but I haven’t tried it out yet. :) Anyway, this lasts all night long, from 23:30 pm and until 06:00 am. It’s cool! It’s one of my favorite shows, as they play such a beaaauuuutiful music!!! ♥

And… Well. I guess that’s all. :) I hope you’ll enjoy it and, if you actually listen to some of these, let me know! :) Specially, if you listen to the Chilean music radio show! It always makes me happy to share my country’s culture and typical stuff and to show the world that we exist and we have some good things! ;)

I agree. “Los Conquistadores” is without a doubt the BEST in radio music in Chile.

It makes a welcome change from the Cumbias and Reggaeton you hear on other stations here.

Long may it live!

Yeah, it’s so true! <3 I just love it and I’m glad there’s more people who agree with me. :)
